NPC Is Re-Opening for In-Person Church Service
Dear Northminster Family,
I am happy to announce that in-person church services will resume at Northminster on June 7—this coming Sunday, a Communion Sunday, at 10 am. It will be great to see you in person again. For those of you who do not yet feel comfortable joining a public gathering, the service will also be live-streamed on Zoom. Call (858-499-3990) or email (church@northminstersandiego.com) the NPC Office for the meeting ID.
While we are all probably very good at social-distancing by this time, there are a few things you will need to remember when you attend the service on Sunday:
Families and households may sit together, but each group or single will need to maintain a distance of 6 feet from others. Children will need to remain with their parents during the service, since no Sunday School classes will be offered.
Facial coverings must be worn when entering and exiting the building and when singing.
Every other row of pews will be blocked off, and the entire seating section in front of the stage will be closed.
Beverages and food will not be served, though you may bring your own—which must be in sealed containers (please, no Starbucks or fast food disposable cups).
May God continue to bless our congregation and church family.
I look forward to seeing you on June 7th
Love in Christ,Pastor Jay Shirley
May 31st Pentecost Sunday - Please wear red for the Special Zoom Service
Pentecost celebrates the birthday of the Church of Christ in the world, remembering the day the Holy Spirit came among the early disciples and other followers--setting their hearts afire--soon after Jesus' resurrection and ascension.
In celebration of this occasion, a special Pentecost Offering is received each year during the season of Pentecost. This offering provides aid to programs focused on young adults and children at risk, both locally and around the world. 25% of this offering remains at Northminster, 75% supports youth and children's special ministries through Presbytery and General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church.
The Pentecost special offering at Northminster will be received May 31 - June 7 this year, and can be mailed to the church office, dropped into the lock box on the church office door or made online via the Donate button below or through your bank’s web site for those that participate in online billing.
First Presbyterian Church Ladle fellowship
Before the world changed due to COVID-19, Northminster volunteers had planned to carpool down to the First Presbyterian Church and volunteer to assist this Ministry in feeding the hungry. Things changed, but we can still help with a monetary gift to Ladle Fellowship.
At the moment Ladle Fellowship is engaged in a very tight running "Grab & Go" on Sundays and Wednesdays. They are set for volunteers, however, donations have fallen since the outbreak of the virus, and they could use funds. They are running a donation "match" campaign through the 15th of May. The If you are interested in helping, please mail or drop off a check into the lock box on the NPC office door, or you can donate online (see below). Please make the check out to NPC, with a memo note Ladle Fellowship. The full amount will go to First Presbyterian Ladle Ministry. Thank you very much!
Interfaith Shelter Current Programs during COVID-19 Quarantine

Community Christian Service Agency (CCSA) Update
Thank you to all who supported CCSA Ministry. It was given tremendous support, and they are able to purchase food essentials. We received over $3000.00. Way to go Northminster!
Message from Pastor Jay
Greetings Friends,
Who knew 2020 would bring so many changes to our lives…oh yeah, I guess God did!
Therefore, we as the church, are praying & working on how to maneuver through this disruption of ‘our normal’ to discover how we might be THE CHURCH in a way that brings glory to God and demonstrates hope & redemption to our community and world.
Your Session & Deacons are meeting weekly online to discern our path forward. To date:
The deacons are attempting to reach out to our members to offer support and assist. They have been able to drop off food and supplies when needed, so please let us know if there are ways to help you and others in your life.
The weekly sermons are being posted on our website. We’re looking to going live @ 10am Sunday in two weeks, so will keep you posted.
The elders are working together to discover creative ways to continue the health of our ministries and financial needs.
Prayer is the best avenue we know to align ourselves with God’s purpose for our lives, church, and world. So, I would like to invite you to join with other churches in praying for fifteen minutes for 90 days. You can register online by going to WePray247.COM and sign-up. Include our church name and let me know what time you will be praying. How great would it be if NPC covered several hours a day!
These are difficult times, the Coronavirus is bigger than one person or nation, that is why research teams around the world are joining together to find a solution. In the same way, the challenges many of us are facing are bigger than any of us, that is why we need each other, as church to surround and support us as we journey together.
Blessings,
Pastor Jay

Let's Stay Connected!
3/16/20: Dear Families and Friends - we would like to stay connected with everyone through our website and our Deacons.
Due to the current shelter in place order, we will temporarily not be holding in person worship service at the church until further notice. We will be having service online - live via Zoom. We will record them and then post in the Sermon section of this web site as well as on YouTube.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 15:13)

Thrivent in April
Our team of volunteers threw a Easter/Spring themed birthday party and trivia event for the low income and homeless seniors at the Serving Seniors in downtown San Diego. We had over 100 seniors at the event and we served cake and punch and had 20 birthday gift bags filled with personal necessity products, snack items, pens, paper, juice boxes, water bottles, tea bags, laundry soap, oatmeal packets, protein bars, soup mixes, kleenex, hand sanitizer and other small items. We also were able to have a raffle with over 20 items which were used as the prizes for the games and trivia questions. We had collected some really great raffle items such as gift cards, sheet sets, candles, coffee and tea sets, bath products, sewing gifts, reusable water bottles, oven mats, cooking pans, sweaters, gloves, scarves, socks and other items that were a big hit. We sang happy birthday and each of the seniors who had a birthday during the month of April were called up to the front and told us about themselves and when and where they were born. It was so sweet as many of them were over 90 years old! Several were English second language speakers and they had written out the translated information so that they could read it to the group. This was such a wonderful event with so many smiling faces and we had so much fun celebrating with the seniors and making them feel special. This is such a wonderful way to spread joy and so many people benefit from these events. Thank you for allowing us to provide this celebration for our seniors!
Northminster's 65th Birthday!
On Sunday, March 31, Northminster Presbyterian Church celebrated its 65th birthday at its regular Sunday morning service, but it was far from regular. Pastor Jay was joined by 3 prior Pastors during the service to commemorate the occasion. We had a wonderful turn out of past and present congregants, friends and guests. It turned out to be a joyous celebration of worship and music. The service was followed by a delicious lunch and a slide show viewing historic glimpses of the building of our Church and early activities.
