Community Garden

The Northminster Community Garden, tended by about 40 dedicated gardeners, has grown into more than just a place to cultivate plants. Through a committee-style approach to planning, members share responsibilities, make decisions collaboratively, and ensure the garden runs smoothly. This spirit of cooperation has fostered stronger connections among participants, who now enjoy both the fresh harvests and the sense of accomplishment that comes from working together. The garden has become a thriving example of how teamwork and shared vision can yield both abundance and community.

Recent events include:

Sept 13, 1030am at Church kitchen. Made grape jelly from grapes harvested from the garden’s vines. Class taught by JoAn Johnson, Northminster Church member, and 8 gardeners in attendance. Participants took home 2 jars of jelly each.

Currently enjoying an abundant harvest of passion fruit and dragon fruit.

Some garden facts:

  • Our gardeners meet weekly on Saturdays, currently at 9:00 am, to share joys, challenges... and produce! You are welcome to come at that time to meet us and find out more.

  • Each 5' x 10' box has its own irrigation system and timer, so even if you can't get to the garden everyday, you can still participate.

  • You can garden anytime you like - no restrictions on time of day.

  • We have a robust composting system and many shared tools and seeds.

  • A nominal membership fee of $5/month is your only cost. Renewals occur every 4 months; once you have a box you can garden with us indefinitely.

  • Our gardeners share ideas, questions, photos and announcements on an online group page, which you are welcome to join once you join our garden.

If you are interested in adding your name to the waiting list or learning more about the garden, please contact the churCh office.
